About the Trek

 

The Tarsar Marsar Trek is one of the most beautiful alpine lake treks in Kashmir, taking you deep into the scenic landscapes of the Aru Valley. Famous for its two spectacular high-altitude lakes—Tarsar Lake and Marsar Lake—the trek combines lush green meadows, dense pine and conifer forests, crystal-clear streams, rugged mountain trails and breathtaking Himalayan views.

Starting from the picturesque village of Aru near Pahalgam, the trail gradually takes you through Lidderwat and Shekwas before reaching the stunning Tarsar Lake. As the journey continues, you cross high mountain terrain towards Sundarsar and explore the dramatic surroundings of Marsar Lake.

Your Tarsar Marsar adventure begins with your journey from Srinagar to Aru, a beautiful mountain village located near Pahalgam and surrounded by the spectacular landscapes of Kashmir.

After meeting the trek team in Srinagar, begin your scenic drive towards Aru. The route takes you through the beautiful countryside of Kashmir, with views of green valleys, mountain slopes, local villages, orchards and the changing Himalayan landscape.

As you approach Pahalgam, the scenery becomes increasingly picturesque. Continue your journey towards Aru, located further up the valley and serving as the base point for the trek.

On arrival at Aru, settle into your accommodation or campsite and take some time to relax. You can explore the peaceful surroundings, enjoy the mountain views and prepare yourself for the trekking days ahead.

The evening can be used for a trek briefing, equipment check and preparation for the next day's journey.

After breakfast, begin your first full day of trekking from Aru towards Lidderwat.

The trail gradually takes you away from the village and deeper into the beautiful Himalayan landscape. You will walk through forested sections, open meadows and along stretches of the scenic Lidder River.

As you progress, the surroundings become increasingly peaceful. Pine and conifer forests provide shade along parts of the trail, while open grasslands offer beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

The trail eventually reaches Lidderwat, a scenic camping area surrounded by forests and mountain landscapes. After reaching the campsite, relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

The trail offers spectacular views of the valley behind you as you climb higher. Along the way, you may encounter streams, grazing areas and traditional shepherd settlements that reflect the simple mountain lifestyle of the region.

As you approach Shekwas, the landscape opens into vast alpine meadows surrounded by mountains. After reaching the campsite, relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

After breakfast, begin one of the most exciting sections of the Tarsar Marsar Trek as you make your way from Shekwas towards Tarsar Lake.

The trail gradually climbs through beautiful alpine landscapes. As you gain altitude, the views become increasingly dramatic, with expansive meadows and rugged mountain slopes surrounding the trail.

After crossing the high meadow terrain, you will eventually catch your first glimpse of the magnificent Tarsar Lake.

Set against a spectacular Himalayan backdrop, the lake is one of the major highlights of the trek. Spend time exploring the surroundings, taking photographs and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.

Depending on weather and campsite arrangements, the night may be spent near the Tarsar region.

After breakfast, begin the trek towards Sundersar. Today's trail takes you across higher terrain and over a mountain ridge, offering spectacular views of the surrounding valleys.

The trail gradually climbs before descending towards the Sundersar region. As you approach the campsite, the landscape becomes increasingly rugged and dramatic.

Sundersar is another beautiful high-altitude lake region surrounded by mountain slopes and open meadows. Spend the evening relaxing at the campsite and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

Today is one of the most memorable days of the entire trek as you set out to explore the spectacular Marsar Lake.

After an early breakfast, begin your hike towards the Marsar region. The trail climbs towards a high ridge from where you can experience dramatic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Marsar Lake is known for its mysterious and serene atmosphere, often surrounded by clouds and mist. The lake lies in a remote high-altitude setting and provides a truly unforgettable Himalayan experience.

After spending time around the Marsar viewpoint/region, begin your descent towards Homwas. The trail gradually loses altitude as you make your way towards the campsite.

After reaching Homwas, relax and enjoy your final night of camping in the mountains.

Wake up to your final morning in the mountains. After breakfast, begin the descent from Homwas towards Aru.

Today's trail takes you back through the beautiful landscapes experienced during the initial part of the trek. As you lose altitude, the surroundings gradually change from high alpine terrain to meadows and forested areas.

Continue through Lidderwat and eventually reach Aru, marking the completion of your Tarsar Marsar trekking adventure.

On reaching Aru, board your vehicle and begin your journey back towards Srinagar.

As the mountains slowly disappear behind you, take a moment to reflect on the incredible landscapes, challenging trails, alpine lakes and unforgettable memories of Kashmir.

Be Cautious on Snow & Ice

Carry Essential Medications

Be Mindful of AMS

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) can occur at high altitude. Watch for symptoms such as headache, nausea, dizziness, unusual tiredness or breathlessness. Inform the trek leader immediately if you feel unwell.

Pack Smart & Travel Light

Carry only essential items. An unnecessarily heavy backpack can make the trek significantly more difficult.

Respect the Environment

Do not litter. Avoid disturbing wildlife and vegetation, and follow Leave No Trace principles wherever possible.

Emergency Preparedness

Transportation Policy

Please note that AC may not be operational during travel in hilly and mountain regions due to road conditions, weather and vehicle operating conditions.

If AC is required in such areas, you may coordinate directly with the driver. Additional charges may apply where applicable.

Advance Payment

A minimum 30% advance payment is required to confirm your booking.

The remaining/full payment must be completed before the trek starts.

Rescheduling

Rescheduling is allowed only once and must be requested at least 7 days before the trek start date.

Cancellation by the Trekker

  • 30+ days before the trek: 90% refund of the total amount.
  • 15–30 days before the trek: 50% refund of the total amount.
  • Less than 15 days before the trek: No refund.
  • Booking Amount: No refund will be issued for any booking amount below ?500.

In case of unforeseen circumstances such as severe weather, natural disasters, government restrictions, road closures or other circumstances beyond our control, Divintra Holidays reserves the right to cancel, postpone or modify the trek for safety reasons.

Where applicable, an alternative trek date, trek option or voucher may be offered.

No Refund for Unused Services

No refund will be provided for any service included in the package but not used by the trekker, including meals, transportation, accommodation or other inclusions.

Dropout During the Trek

If a participant chooses to leave the trek due to personal reasons, no refund will be provided.

Any additional expenses related to evacuation, transportation, accommodation or early exit will be borne by the participant.
