Freshwater Lake Trek in the Dhauladhar Range

About the Kareri Lake Trek

The Kareri Lake Trek is a beautiful Himalayan adventure that takes you deep into the peaceful landscapes of Himachal Pradesh’s Dhauladhar range. Located at an altitude of around 9,626 ft (2,934 m), Kareri Lake is a stunning freshwater alpine lake known for its clear waters, dramatic mountain surroundings, and untouched natural beauty.

The trek starts from Kareri Village near Dharamshala and gradually climbs through dense forests of oak, pine, and rhododendron. The trail follows the scenic Nyund Nallah, with mountain streams, wooden bridges, open meadows, rocky sections, and traditional shepherd settlements adding variety to the journey.

As you gain altitude, the forest gradually gives way to wide alpine landscapes and rugged mountain terrain. The final approach to Kareri Lake is especially rewarding, with the tranquil lake surrounded by towering Dhauladhar peaks, rocky ridges, and seasonal snow patches.

Camping in this remote Himalayan setting gives you the chance to experience the mountains away from busy tourist destinations. From peaceful trails and fresh mountain air to beautiful sunrise and sunset views, the Kareri Lake Trek from Delhi is an excellent choice for trekkers looking for a refreshing combination of nature, adventure, and solitude.

Mountain weather can change quickly. Carry thermal wear, fleece layers, a warm jacket and a waterproof outer layer. Keep waterproof gloves and rain protection handy.

3. Follow Your Trek Leader

Stay with the group and follow instructions from your trek leader and local guides. Avoid taking unknown shortcuts or wandering away from the designated trail.

If snow or ice is present, walk carefully and maintain a steady pace. Use appropriate traction equipment whenever required and follow the trek team's instructions.

5. Carry Essential Medicines
