What Makes Chandrakhani Pass Trek Special?

The Chandrakhani Pass Trek stands out because of its variety. Within a short trekking journey, you experience dense Himalayan forests, colourful meadows, high mountain passes, traditional villages and expansive views of some of Himachal Pradesh's major mountain ranges.

Unlike extremely technical Himalayan expeditions, Chandrakhani Pass offers a rewarding high-altitude experience without requiring advanced mountaineering skills. The combination of natural beauty, local culture and Himalayan mythology makes it a particularly attractive trek near Manali.

Tour Plan

Your Chandrakhani Pass adventure begins from Manali Private Bus Stand, where the pickup is scheduled around 10:00 AM. From Manali, a scenic drive takes you towards Rumsi, the starting point of the trek.

After a short lunch break, the trek begins towards Naya Thapru. The first day covers approximately 4–5 km and is a relatively easy introduction to the trail. The route passes through peaceful mountain villages, dense forests and open meadows, allowing you to gradually settle into the Himalayan surroundings.

Once you reach the Naya Thapru campsite, enjoy evening refreshments followed by dinner. Your certified trek leader will conduct a detailed briefing covering the route, safety instructions and the days ahead.

Overnight stay: Camps at Naya Thapru.

Day two is the major highlight of the trek as the trail heads towards the spectacular Chandrakhani Pass.

The route gradually climbs through alpine landscapes, forested sections and open mountain terrain. As you gain altitude, the views become increasingly impressive, with wide Himalayan panoramas unfolding around you.

Reaching Chandrakhani Pass at 12,008 ft is a rewarding moment. Take some time to admire the surrounding peaks and high-altitude landscape before continuing towards Dadru.

The descent brings a change in scenery as the trail moves towards the campsite.

Overnight stay: Camps at Dadru.

After breakfast, begin the day's trek towards Malana, one of the fascinating high-altitude villages of Himachal Pradesh.

The trail takes you through beautiful mountain terrain while offering opportunities to appreciate the natural surroundings and traditional Himalayan way of life. Malana is known for its distinctive culture, ancient traditions and remote location.

After reaching the Malana region, settle in and enjoy the peaceful mountain environment.

Overnight stay: Camps/accommodation as per trek arrangement.

After breakfast, the final day of the trek begins with the journey from Malana towards Jari. From Jari, continue by road towards Manali, marking the end of your Chandrakhani Pass Trek.

The journey back gives you time to look back on the forests, meadows, mountain views and experiences collected during the trek.

Safety Guidelines for Chandrakhani Pass Trek

1. Acclimatize Properly
The trek reaches 12,008 ft, so give your body enough time to adjust to altitude. Stay hydrated and avoid alcohol and smoking during the trek.

2. Dress in Layers
Mountain weather can change quickly. Carry thermals, fleece, a warm jacket and waterproof outer layers so you can adjust according to the conditions.

3. Follow Your Trek Leader
Stay with the group and follow instructions from your trek leader and guide. Avoid taking shortcuts or unfamiliar trails.

4. Take Extra Care on Snow and Slippery Sections
Snow, ice and wet trails can make the route slippery. Walk carefully and use appropriate traction equipment when conditions require it.

5. Carry Essential Medication
Bring your regular medicines and a basic first-aid kit. Inform your trek leader about any relevant medication requirements before starting the trek.

6. Stay Hydrated and Eat Properly
Drink sufficient water throughout the day and eat regular meals to maintain energy during long trekking sections.

7. Watch for Symptoms of AMS
Headache, nausea, dizziness, unusual fatigue or breathlessness can indicate altitude-related problems. Inform your trek leader immediately if you experience unusual symptoms.

8. Pack Light
Avoid carrying unnecessary items. A 50–60 litre backpack with a rain cover is generally suitable for carrying your trek essentials.

9. Respect the Mountains
Do not litter or leave plastic and other waste on the trail. Follow responsible trekking and Leave No Trace practices.

10. Be Prepared for Emergencies
Weather and trail conditions can change unexpectedly in the mountains. Follow the trek team's safety decisions, including descent or route changes when necessary.
